What You Should Know About the Common Application

application with penTrying to simplify the college application process? Then you’ll love the Common Application, – a college application system used by hundreds of colleges and universities across the country.

All of the colleges who use the Common App accept the same application, personal essay, and teacher recommendations. This means that students only have to fill out these forms online once for all of their choice schools. These colleges can also require additional applications or supplemental essays as they see fit, which the Common App website helps you keep organized.

Although the Common App has been around a while, there are some important details this year that your child should be aware of:

  • Starting an Account: While students can access the Common App site to see what the requirements for various schools were last year, the new year’s application does not roll out until August 1.  It is best to wait until then to set up an account—an account created before then may actually be deleted.
  • Some schools don’t accept the common application: If your child is applying to a school that is not a member of Common App association, you will have to contact that school or visit the school’s website for admission requirements.

Could your student use help with college essays and research?  Through our College Application Essay tutoring, our expert tutors can help students navigate the Common App website, manage their college application research, and write quality essays that will highlight their accomplishments.  We encourage students to start the summer before senior year to give them enough time to accomplish these goals.

Now is a great time for your child to get started on their college essays.  Contact us so that we can show you how we can help!
