Frequently asked questions about the ACT and SAT
Does my child need to take both the ACT and SAT?
Every college in the US accepts both the ACT and SAT, so there is no need to take both. We encourage students to prepare for the test that they are most comfortable with and that plays to their strengths. We can help your child choose the test that is best for them!
If your child wants to prepare for both tests, we typically focus on one test first so that the test strategies and content can be mastered before moving on to another test.
Is it better to take the ACT or SAT?
It depends on your child's strengths! All students begin by taking a pre-test. For students unsure of which test to focus on, we recommend taking pre-tests for both the ACT & SAT. After the pre-tests are complete, one of our directors will talk through which test we recommend focusing on and why. We'll also provide a detailed score analysis, as well as a tutoring plan that outlines how much tutoring we recommend, goal scores, and potential test dates. The best part? The pre-tests, test analyses, and plans are free!Contact us today to get a free pre-test, or sign up for one of our proctored tests!
We live in Illinois. Should my child focus on the SAT since that is now the state test?
It's up to you! However, if your child is more comfortable with the ACT, we'd recommend sticking with that. Many of our Chicagoland students prepare for the ACT but do a little SAT prep before the state SAT. In that case, the student's tutor helps them transfer their ACT strategies to the SAT so they feel confident going into the SAT.
