What Our Staff Says

Here are a few things that come to mind when I think of our culture at Nurturing Wisdom: We work as a team to share ideas and solve problems. We’re always thinking of ways to improve on what we’re doing. We take pride in the work we do. I love the fact that I respect and have confidence in the people I work with!!”

Christian, Tutoring Director

I enjoy being a part of NW, because of its values. We are very much a team and share open and honest communication regularly. We are all very supportive of each other and work together to do the best for families and students. I like working with professionals that I respect and who respect me. We are positive and make working fun. I feel as though my opinion is valued and taken seriously, which really makes me feel part of the core of the company. We constantly are looking at growth, not only for the company, but for ourselves. I enjoy reflecting on what works and what doesn’t and finding new ways to make NW successful. I am proud of our company’s dynamics, it’s tutors and curriculum. We are doing something to help kids in our areas! I also truly enjoy the way it shows that we care not only for our families and students, but for our tutors and each other as well.”

Jeanne Rerucha, Tutoring Director

NW’s culture is sensitive to students’ individual learning needs, something that is almost impossible to achieve in school. Even the best teacher cannot give each individual student the amount of attention they need. I like the culture because it helps to foster in students that they can succeed when they are given customized learning experiences, which then will build their confidence in their ability in school and life. I also love the culture of NW because it works in such a way to increase the confidence of tutors as well, and this confidence translates to students. I love being a tutor for NW!”

Cate, Tutor

I appreciate the culture of Nurturing Wisdom because it fosters honesty and candor. That was something that continually came up in orientation/training and was and is something that I respect about our company. Since integrity and honesty are two things I value very highly in the whole of my life, I value them in my workplace as well. I also appreciate NW’s commitment to helping each student as an individual. I like that NW doesn’t only concern themselves with the numbers but with the student’s general well-being.”

Cara, Tutor

NW Culture is friendly, open, and communicative. The directors are very supportive and professional. I really enjoy working with Nurturing Wisdom.”

Gabrielle, Tutor

What I love most about Nurturing Wisdom is that we’re really helping students and families, while also personally learning, growing and having fun. We’re a close, hard working group, and we’re all very passionate about education and helping students. What excites me most is seeing a person learn, grow, and surpass their own expectations. This is what we seek to accomplish at Nurturing Wisdom for our students, our tutors, and ourselves. I truly enjoy the wonderful team we have and working together to help our students, our tutors, and our company grow.”

Pari, Company President

I love that I am truly a team member in this company – with Christian, with the admin team, with the tutors, with the families. That said, I also love the autonomy and independence I have in this job. I need that alone time – professionally and personally – and I appreciate that I get it here. I’ve never felt shy or dumb asking any question. I appreciate the encouragement and opportunity to process anything that needs to be processed and to do lots of constructive reflecting. Very pleased that we really live the candor and communication pieces of our mission. I believe in what we and our tutors do, and I genuinely enjoy talking with families about it. I feel safe working for a company that has high standards, non-negotiables, and strict boundaries, but that also will go out of its way to take care of its clients and employees. NW is always learning and growing, trying and tweaking. The common sense employed on a daily basis had my head spinning for the first month or so! I could go on and on, but that’s the big stuff. I am over the moon that I have the opportunity to be a part of this organization.”

Erin, Tutoring Director

NW is a results-oriented organization that helps students reach their academic goals through attention to detail (intake interview and tutor matching) and customized curriculum. I find the work rewarding. I have a connection with most of the families. With some students, I feel more like a mentor than a homework watcher. I enjoy the “second shift” hours. I can say that I have never felt that I was “on my own”. I receive all the support that I ask for.

Peter, Tutor

When I finally decided to bite the bullet and look for a full-time job, I naturally looked to two places I’d been working part-time at for an extended period of time – Nurturing Wisdom and a local college. There was a position at the college that I think I would’ve been a good candidate for, and my husband and I spent a lot of time discussing and comparing NW and the college because I think we both knew that whichever direction I chose would be a long-term relationship,my “career,” if you will.To be honest, the college had several perks that NW did not – full medical benefits, retirement benefits, free classes for me and my family, much less commuting, fewer evening hours, and the perceived job stability of working at a well-established college. However, I obviously chose NW and did not pursue the other position because the benefits of being at NW are deeper, more important, and make for a better fit for me for the long term. I love working for Nurturing Wisdom because……it’s a positive atmosphere. At other places there’s drama, there are cliques, there’s gossip, and I find that obnoxious and draining. It’s a non-issue at NW….my voice is heard and my opinion valued. I don’t have to fight the administration to make a change. I’m on the administration team….NW hires the best people. Something I’ve never understood is how incompetent people have jobs. My dad has had so much stress in his life because he inherited a micromanaging, stubborn direct report whom he can’t fire. It’s baffling to me! I know that the people you work with can easily make or break your feelings of job satisfaction, and I feel lucky to say that I sincerely respect and like the staff at NW….it’s challenging. I’m working to improve my timeliness, my efficiency, and my time management, to name a few things. I’m reading a lot more than I have in the recent past. I like that I’m growing in my skills and my experience….it’s exciting! NW is going places. There are new ideas, new directions, new programs, and it’s cool to be intimately involved in the building of a company.I’m sure there are more reasons too, but these are what come to mind first.”

Sara, Staff Coordinator

I’m impressed that Nurturing Wisdom nurtures students and thinks about themselves as educators. I’m happy to be working with a company that really cares whether they’re helping their students be successful as people, not just getting them A’s.”

Kevin, Tutor

I enjoy working with NW because everyone is very helpful, communicative, and generally enjoyable to speak with and be around.”

Sue, Tutor

I like how NW is focused on the whole student and not solely on outcomes of tests.”

Jim, Tutor

NW is a company that cares about students, their families, and their best interests. This type of sincere and honest service advertises for itself, and growth and profit margins don’t have to be a priority for them to still occur.”

Charles, Tutor

I like working for NW because we really focus on what is important—kids and their individual learning. NW has a good, healthy work environment.”

Anne, Tutor

I love the support I get from all my tutoring directors, and the different strategies shared, and the flexibility with all that’s been on my plate. I really like how I have been paired with the students that it’s not only based on the needs of the student but through hobbies and personalities as well. I have been very pleased working for NW. I am excited to be with NW because it’s never just tutoring but also the relationship building with the student and even with the families, which I truly enjoy.”

Jin, Tutor

To me, NW is really special because it’s a truly collaborative environment, where everybody’s opinion is considered and valued. I really love that—it really does feel like a team. And not the generic corporate idea of “team,” I feel like we get things done as a team in a really fun, supportive, positive and extremely productive way. It’s also extremely exciting to be a part of a company that is growing very rapidly and is also extremely focused on high standards. That seems to be a pretty rare combination. I love how much innovation is valued, and that nobody is stuck in their ways about how things should be done.I also love the atmosphere of communication and candor. It’s wonderful. I’ve learned so much about professional communication, but I’ve also been able to take these principles and apply them to my whole life. Speaking of which, I also love how much personal growth is appreciated and emphasized! That’s an extremely special NW quality. I’ve never felt like a work-bot, I’ve always felt like I can find new and different ways to invest myself in my job. That’s such an incredibly rare opportunity—I feel so lucky!

Sonja, Administrative Coordinator

I think the best thing about NW is the support from directors. I always feel that I can ask for help if needed and I think the resources from training sessions and the digital library are extremely helpful.”

Jackie, Tutor

Nurturing Wisdom is a company that utilizes tutors to better students in many areas, using research and innovative ideas in a calm, private home atmosphere. The tutors teach, not only to better academics and test taking, but to teach so students can learn and apply those skills for the rest of their lives.”

Jackie, Tutor

I love the ideas that are brought to the table, constant brainstorming ways to make NW better…I also love how open people are—the communication here is fantastic; I always know where I stand. The high expectations of tutor/other employees make NW really stand out among other tutoring companies. The growth of NW is great to see too. Always striving to offer the best possible to families and employees.”

Kristina, Administrative Assistant

To me the most important qualities of the company are its self-reflecting nature. It offers a lot of support to me, but also expects a lot out of me, which I appreciate. Mistakes are not shunned but looked at objectively and built upon which is important as starting tutoring can be a learning process for the tutor as well.”

Sean, Tutor

Nurturing Wisdom values quality, not quantity which makes them rare in the business world. I love working for this company because I believe they highly value the quality of tutoring, and the skills and abilities I bring with me. NW wants students to improve, and that is more important than anything, including the bottom line. To that end, they foster a culture of learning, improvement, and reflection, for tutors and students, and that is why I believe in them.”

Laura, Tutor

“I have had a lot of jobs in education but none as rewarding as tutoring. You get to have a personal connection with students and families and use the best of your own skills to bring out the best in your students. Both the tutor and students get to see improvement in almost every session. It’s so rewarding.”

Danie, Tutor
